The two most important variables to consider when picking a recipe are net profit per hour and cafe points per hour.
Net profit per hour tells us how much money each recipe produces per hour spent on the grill. A high net profit per hour indicates that a recipe is very profitable. You would want to choose recipes of this variety if you need more money to buy tables, expand your cafe, put in a new stove, or buy anything else your restaurant needs.
Cafe points per hour tells us how much experience points (cafe points, or CP) each recipe produces per hour spent on the grill. A high cafe points per hour indicates that a recipe is very good for leveling up. You would want to recipes that offer a high number of cafe points per hour in order to level up quickly. Leveling up is important because as you level up you get access to more stoves and waiters (which will allow you to make more money and level up faster). So even if your goal is to just build a nice looking cafe, you do want to level up at a reasonable speed so that you can buy better things for your cafe.

Note: I originally knocked the Bacon Cheeseburger down to #3 since in reality about 10-15% (depending on # of grills) of the time spent cooking it is spend cleaning the grills, serving it, buying it, and preparing it. However, since bacon cheeseburgers pay so much money, I think it may actually be #1. You can create caramel apples over and over again and cancel them before they are done to turn your coins into cafe points.
Note #2: I didn't include the Hotdog and Garlic Fries in the "top cafe points" recipes because it has the same cook time and cafe points as the Bacon Cheeseburger, but has a higher level requirement and pays out less coins.
From what I have seen so far, the Bacon Cheeseburger is the best recipe to get cafe points, but you have to be at the computer for this to work as you must continuously serve and start up a new batch on the stove.
When it comes to getting coins, the overstuffed recipe provides a ton of coins per hour and only needs to be made once every 12 hours. This is a great recipe for getting a lot of money. The only downside is the high level requirement for the recipe.
If you are a low level player, the message is clear - if you want a successful cafe, you better be running a burger joint! You can get even more experience points by turning your extra coins into cafe points as outlined in my fast leveling post, which makes the Bacon Cheeseburger top dog due to its high ranking on both the cafe points per hour spent cooking and coins per hour spent cooking.

Can we get the servings added? This may help with strategy. For example, I decided to go with the pumpkin pie while I rest tonight instead of the cheesecake. Although it is less in value for experience and coinage, I have around half the servings to sell. This means I will get my profit back much quicker, since I still have a smaller cafe.
Perhaps you can even add figures for how many customers come in/you can serve at certain buzz ratings.

One thing I didn't see mentioned was servings per hour. Super Chunk Fruit Salad is 400 servings per hour. I use it to build up a large number of servings so that my cafe is still serving people when I'm off-line.
Good guide, but you're forgetting one important factor: time necessary to serve, clean, gather and prep. Even if you cheat and completely ignore walking time for serving gyros beats burgers for XP 80,5 to 77,3.
If you don't cheat or they fix the trapping bug, at that point you don't even have the time to serve and prepare eight counters one by one in the cooking time of the ninth stove you should have, so your output is also capped to eight dishes at full speed while gyros doesn't cap until fifteen stoves.
So at level 23 and onward: forget about burgers.
I think I just gave myself a headache, but hopefully the results are worthwhile: if you recognize the cost of cleanup in reduced net profit instead of increased cost, then divide the cost by the number of preparation points (there's no cleanup if you cancel a dish) you get the monetary cost per Cafe Point if you're buying points. End result is interesting: 1) Chips and Guac ($3.33/CP) 2)Bacn Chzbrgr (5/CP) and 3)Caramel Apples (7.5/CP). It might be a ton of clicking, but Chips and Guac provides the cheapest method to buy Cafe Points (by a large margin).

Capzilla, I once was in your line of thinking, but there is also the fact that burgers produce tons of coins, and you can convert coins into cafe points by creating a dish, cancelling it before it is done, then creating a dish again.
And @Ryan, you can't cancel cheeseburger or guac and chips, so caramel apples are the best for that purpose.

a small tip ... when you're at a higher level and have lots of stoves, for fast CP delivery keep 2 stoves free for the making and killing of caramel apples, and then use the rest of the stoves for a rotation of burgers, chips and guacamole and chicken gyro and fries. This way you get the fastest delivery of CPs, plus you only need two stoves for the fastest turnaround of caramel apples. Using more stoves than this is a waste :) Happy cooking! :D

One of my friends starts the chocolate cake and then deletes them before they are done and has leveled up like a rocket. Love your blog, according to my calculations i should be able to get to level 87 if i use the powerleveling method with the caramel apples.I'm level 70 and have 4,500,000 coins.It takes about 30k cp to level up.Apples give about 0.1141 cp per coin.That means 4,500,000 coins is about 513450cp. 513450cp is about 17 levels. Can't wait to get to work!
@madge, caramel apples are buy FAR the best food to buy cp with. I looked for a cash/cp ratio chart but didn't find it...i calculated most of them though and caramel apples are by FAR the best. Also i it takes 8.75cash to obtain 1cp. If you calculate the total potential cp/hour (cookingcp+powerlevelingcp) of the paella and the veggie lasagna...paella wins!

An Ice Cream Sundae has been added, although I don't qualify for it yet (I'm on level 52 as of this writing.) Cook ice cream on a stove?!? Well since there are no ice cream dispensers in Cafeworld yet...
Anyways it seems Zynga is adding more upper-level recipes. This is likely consistent with the fact it's made improvements for people who go over level 80...gotta have something for those people to keep them playing the game. Perhaps future recipes will include brewing beer, making wine, or distilling vodka, bourbon, moonshine, etc. Afterall your customers need something to wash down all that Kung Pao Stir Fry, Tostada Carne De Astada, and those Jammin' Jelly Doughnuts.
I could just see it now: Vinnie's Classic Vino (and the customer's hate Vinnie as much as they hate his brother Tony the Pizza Maker...lol!)

really nice blog and lot of useful info for cafe world lovers. i am just a noobie so found it very useful (esp making/canceling caramel apple to level up). now i have have 11 stoves and i am offline most of the time so i cook only chicken pot pie on five of them (day 1) and chicken pot pie on another six (day 2). that way i can cook daily, earn daily bonus for cooking, have regular food supply and lot of coins ;)
since cafeworld had been updated, please update the recipe with a brand new one because i get a little confused and im too lazy to recalculate the profit&cp..
